피난 시절 알게 된 평양 출신 청년을 어머니는 마음에 들어 했지만 화자는 이 년 가까이 피해 다녔다. 인천 앞 섬에서 하룻밤을 보내며 그의 정직함에 마음이 움직였다. 1963년 결혼해 미아리에 신혼집을 차렸다.
